Job Description Accounting Manager The Accounting Manager is a key participant in the management and execution of accounting operations for a rapidly growing development stage pharmaceutical company. This is a broad, hands-on role with a range of accounting and finance duties including monthly close, accruals, journal entries, maintenance of the general ledger, payables processing, payroll, fixed assets, audit and SOX compliance. This individual will work with the Controller to establish, document and enforce policies and procedures surrounding the accounting cycle. RESPONSIBILITIES: · Manage public company corporate general ledger accounting team by reviewing accounts payable batches, expense reports and consolidated financial statements ensuring accounting processes in compliance with SOX. · Lead all aspects of the monthly close cycle. · Prepare and/or review all necessary journal entries and account reconciliations. · Maintain the general ledger and Chart of Accounts. · File annual property tax and sales/use tax returns and payments. · Oversee corporate internal and external audits by interfacing with auditors. · Run reports from all system modules in general ledger and reporting software. · Support the development, documentation and implementation of corporate accounting policies. · Coordinate accounting system enhancements in accordance with management's objectives and company resources. · Administer payroll through a third party service provider. · Ensure fixed assets are properly safeguarded and tracked in ERP subledger and depreciated in accordance with corporate policy. · Research GAAP and FASB policies and guidance to ensure financial compliance. · Engage in special projects as needed, including maintenance and upgrades to ERP system. QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting with six to ten years of progressive experience. · MBA and/or CPA is a plus. · Current knowledge of SOX compliance and SEC reporting. · Extremely strong business process knowledge, analytical and Excel skills. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with accounting team members and other departments. · Must be a self-starter and a team player, able to contribute individually as well as delegate effectively and develop employees. · Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains experience preferred. · Pharmaceutical/Biotech experience strongly preferred.
