Slice is looking for a Database Developer/Engineer to add to its Data Engineering team. The Data Engineering team supports the company's data warehouse platform. It is a small, agile, customer-friendly team, maintaining Slice's data warehouse platform, as well as supporting our internal users for many data applications. Slice's engineering infrastructure is based on AWS. All servers are Linux servers, in addition to other managed services from AWS. The team heavily utilizes Redshift for supporting both business data processing as well as BI/Analytic queries, in addition to a numerous other cutting edge data technologies (MapReduce, Spark, ElasticSearch, etc). The data warehouse data comes from our core business processing with data stored in MySQL databases. We use Python to perform ETL. We also help non-engineers in tuning complex SQL queries. We are actively exploring AWS tools (Athena, Spectrum, Lambda, Batch, Glue, etc) to move toward serverless and big data environment. You will be joining the Slice Engineering community featuring PhDs, graduates from universities like Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, UCLA, and University of Washington, as well as veterans from companies like Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Expedia, and eBay. Responsibilities: (but not limited to) Maintain existing ETL to the data warehouse Explore and maintain data quality Develop new features on the data warehouse, including ETL Involve in administration of MySQL databases which are the data sources of data warehouse Respond to production issues to quickly rollout solutions and fixes Requirements: Bachelor's degree 2+ years experience developing within SQL Databases Experience with any of the following databases: Redshift, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server Familiar with relational model and SQL Experience with Python Experience working in Unix environment Preferred: Experience with AWS or another cloud infrastructure Exposure to MPP or columnar databases Knowledge of DWH best practices and distributed environments Experience with ETL development Experience with Agile methodologies Great communications skill and team player Comfortable working as part of a connected team, but intrinsically motivated BONUS POINTS (nice to haves) Experience working with large datasets / Big Data (Hive, Spark, Hadoop, Map/Reduce) Who we are: Slice is online shopping, smarter.
