Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired seeks a full time Development Associate. The Development Associate is a key player with the organization’s fundraising team. The Associate is responsible for assisting in the success of the fundraising strategy and ensuring the accuracy of database operations of the Development Department. The ideal candidate will have experience with the production and execution of fundraising events and appeals, working with a database, and basic accounting knowledge. The Development Associate will report to the Director of Development and will be an integral member of the Development team.

The Development Associate will:

• Work in conjunction with Director of Development to plan and execute the Development Department’s fundraising strategy for the fiscal year in order to obtain financial goals set by the board
• Production of all Vista Center fundraising solicitation mailings, event and donor stewardship mailings, informational pieces, Annual Report mailings and other Vista Center departments’ mailings as needed
• Liaison with the Vintage Affaire Committee Chair with preparations and execution of Vintage Affaire event; including donor, underwriter communication reservations and any needed follow-up.
• Assist with preparation and execution of Donor Events; including invitations, RSVP’s and follow-up communication
• Serve as primary contact for all questions pertaining to database management, gift processing procedures
• Consistently file gifts throughout the year, maintaining up to date donor files
• Manage database and ensure all donor records are up to date and accurate
• Process daily all incoming donor information, gifts, event donations, FAN and prepare appropriate acknowledgement communications
• Update directors’ friends’ lists for annual solicitation cycle and provide an outcome report
• Production of financial and donor reports for events, Annual Report, and as requested by Executive Director, Director of Development, and Board
• Reconcile monthly and annually gift transactions with the Accounting Office
• Create and update annually Board of Directors’ Binders
• Work collaboratively with Vista Center and Development colleagues with their duties during peak periods
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Development

The Development Associate should have:

• Bachelor’s degree; communications, business, or related field preferred
• 2-3 years nonprofit, fundraising, database and accounting or similar experience
• Exceptional project management, strategic thinking and time-management skills, including the ability to multi-task effectively
• Familiarity with presentation and fundraising management software; working knowledge and experience with a fundraising database
• The ideal candidate will be flexible and remain open to evolving responsibilities and expectations
• Accuracy and attention to detail; sensitivity when working with highly confidential information
• Ability to identify areas to increase efficiency in database procedures and system
• Must work well under pressure, prioritize and solve problems creatively
• Can work collaboratively with all levels of management and staff, work independently on multiple objectives and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team setting
• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
• Excellent phone, email and in-person etiquette in dealing with clients and donors
• A team player who understands the value he/she brings to the organization (especially during peak periods) and enjoys working in a team to produce workable solutions to projects
• Self-starting, entrepreneurial, independent
• Understanding of the communities we serve
• Ability to be a self-starter and work independently
