Role

The Board of Directors is seeking a Director who is passionate about education and believes in the value of providing excellent public school education. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director is responsible for providing the leadership and operational management of the organization to enable the MPAEF to achieve its goals. The Director’s primary role is to:

• Manage the daily operations of the organization, including supervising staff, volunteer support, financial and legal accountability, donor tracking and management, event coordination, outreach and communications.

• Support the MPAEF’s fundraising efforts by working closely with the Board, ensuring development and successful execution of the annual fundraising plan, identifying and securing new funding sources, and developing and strengthening relationships with our key donors, local businesses, and community partners.

 

Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for successfully leading and managing the organization under the direction set by the Board. The Director is accountable for the foundation’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. The Director’s responsibilities span 5 key areas:

Financial, Administrative and Operations Management (40%)

• Creates, manages, and ensures effective operations of donor management system, auction bidding platform, and financial applications.

• Directs all financial operations including donor management, transaction management, budgeting, monthly reporting, and bookkeeping.

• Ensures adequate control and accounting of all funds, including developing and maintaining sound financial practices. Provides monthly financial reports to the Board and other constituents as appropriate.

• Works with the staff, Treasurer, and the Board to prepare a comprehensive budget; sees that the organization operates within budget guidelines.

• Maintains official records and documents and ensures compliance with organization bylaws and federal, state and local regulations and reporting requirements.

Program Development and Delivery (30%)

• Works with the Board, committees and volunteers to implement and support successful fundraising campaigns, including establishing goals, developing communications, and measuring performance.

• Manages the operational support for MPAEF campaigns and events, including solicitations, progress reporting, expense and budget management and first-line donor support.

• Advises and provides thought leadership as part of campaign and event teams.

HR Management (10%)

• Manages office team: recruit, retain, and lead MPAEF employees/contractors by fostering a climate of excellence, accountability and respect.

• Analyzes, identifies and executes operational improvements for staff, volunteers and business processes.

Donor & Stakeholder engagement (10%)

• Establishes positive relationships with individual family, community, and business donors.

• Establishes positive relationships with government, foundation and corporate donors and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations (i.e., Chamber of Commerce).

• Establishes sound collaborative working relationships with Menlo Park City School District leadership and personnel.

• Serves as a spokesperson for the organization and represents the foundation in the community.

Board of Directors engagement (10%)

• Works collaboratively with the Board to ensure that the Board, its committees, and volunteers operate effectively and efficiently.

• Provides appropriate, adequate and timely financial and operational information to the Board.

• Institutes policies and procedures and promotes an organizational culture that provides a rewarding volunteer experience and maximizes volunteer involvement and efficiency.

• Supports preparation for and attends Board meetings.

Qualifications:

• Exceptional leadership skills: ability to positively motivate a wide range of constituents

• Strong management skills: ability to positively engage others, including staff and volunteers

• Excellent people skills: ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders and volunteers

• Creative problem solver with a can-do spirit and able to work independently without immediate supervision

• Positive energy and enthusiasm

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills

• Highly organized and detail-oriented

• Flexible and able to multi-task

• Experience with relevant software and systems, including Excel, Live Impact, Constant Contact, QuickBooks, and Bidding for Good

• 7+ years of non-profit/fundraising, finance and operations experience, ideally education-related, or equivalent

• Passionate about education and the MPAEF’s mission

• Knowledge of the Menlo Park City School District and community is desirable but not required

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university

Benefits:

• This is a full-time, salaried position, including a healthcare stipend.
